WHAT YOU WILL SEE AT USFSM
ORCHESTRA REHEARSALS
A truly extraordinary experience! Watch and listen as Mr. Perlman works with the students to perfect the pieces they will perform at the Celebration Concert. Enjoy his comments, humor and engagement with the students and audiences at these special evenings. Students are seated non-competitively to eliminate the pressure of “ranking.” Seating is rotated for each movement, so each player has a chance to take on leading and supporting roles.
CHORUS REHEARSALS
Students, Fellows and Faculty participate in these lively evening events conducted by Chorus Master, Patrick Romano. You will hear them rehearse the choral masterworks for the Celebration Concert. Singing together and exploring choral masterworks are core components of the PMP curriculum. Toby and Itzhak Perlman believe that the skills needed for singing are essential to an instrumentalist’s artistic development.
WORKS IN PROGRESS (WIPs)
With their teacher’s approval, students may perform in Works in Progress (WIPs) concerts. WIPs provide an opportunity for them to play recital and chamber music repertoire. Get to know the student’s individual personalities as they perform solo pieces they love, or that they find challenging, to gain performance experience in front of large audiences.
MASTER CLASSES
During the studio class, instrument faculty work with several students on their repertoire in a supportive and constructive environment then discuss their performance with the rest of the instrument studio.
