OUR MISSION:

To Educate and Inspire Generations of Musicians and Audiences
Toby and Itzhak Perlman

The Perlman Music Program Suncoast, together with The Perlman Music Program, based in NYC and Shelter Island, NY, are dedicated to providing the very best environment to educate young string musicians who come to USF Sarasota-Manatee for the PMP Winter Residency.

The Perlman Music Program Suncoast supports and nurtures these young musicians of exceptional talent by providing an additional opportunity to continue their training at the PMP Winter Residency.

As the PMP students move on to higher education and into their careers as professional musicians, PMPS supports their future endeavors by inviting them back to our area for PMP Alumni Special Events, Recitals and Outreach to schools. With this opportunity, they gain performance experience and delight new audiences as their careers advance.

PMP alumni are trained in community outreach, providing educational information and insights into classical string music. Q&A sessions allow audiences to ask questions of the alum, broadening their engagement and enjoyment of the recitals.

PMP Alumni in Schools, which is offered at no cost to the public schools, enables the alumni to work with students who may already play an instrument in Master Classes, where they receive personal instruction. Students who are not familiar with classical music or the instruments are introduced to them with grade appropriate instruction.

THE STORY OF THE PERLMAN MUSIC PROGRAM

Itzhak and Toby Perlman

TOBY’S DREAM
As a young violin student at Juilliard, Toby Perlman imagined an antidote to the competitive and isolating environment that exceptional young artists often grapple with in the pursuit of their craft.

Toby’s dream is based on a deceptively simple idea: meet the needs of each child, respect and trust students, and immerse them in a nurturing environment that emphasizes connection over competition.

At PMP, young musicians learn how to be in the world. They collaborate, support each other, and contribute to camp life. The faculty look beyond the surface of technical proficiency and focus on their students’ potential to be interesting artists. They safeguard talent and individuality, and encourage kids to explore, take risks, and develop at their own pace.
